Senapati, July 28: The prestigious NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy, marking its 25th Anniversary Edition, was officially handed over to the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) by the Mao Students’ Union (MSU) in a solemn yet celebratory ceremony held at Asufü Turf, Senapati.
The event was graced by the chief host Losii Dikho, Hon’ble MLA of 48 Mao A/C. In his address, Dikho acknowledged the NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy Tour across all inhabited Naga areas, highlighting its significance in commemorating the 25th Anniversary Edition. He underscored the importance of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy as not just a football event, but a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. He highlighted the role of sports—especially football—as a modern symbol of unity and encouraged the Naga youth to pursue the sport professionally, envisioning a future built on discipline, passion, and shared identity.
Medo Yokha, Convenor of the Steering Committee for the 25th Anniversary Edition, also delivered a heartfelt message during the ceremony. He expressed gratitude for the successful journey of the trophy and emphasised the values of peace and unity that the tournament promotes. Calling upon football lovers from across the region, Yokha encouraged participation in the upcoming tournament, seeing it as a platform for not only competition but also communal harmony.
Representing the host organisation, Diezevisie Nakhro, President of the Angami Students’ Union, expressed optimism about the strengthening ties among student bodies. He noted the increasing collaboration and communication within the fraternity, which he believes is key to building a brighter, more united future for all Nagas.
As part of the commemorative events, an exhibition football match was held between ASU and MSU teams, symbolising the spirit of unity and sportsmanship. The match drew enthusiastic support and added a festive tone to the historic handover.
