KOHIMA, March 18: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) will observe the 39th NSF Martyrs’ Day on March 20 at NSF Martyrs’ Park in Kohima, Nagaland, to honor two of its members, Kekuojalie Sachü and Vikhozo Yhoshü, who were killed during a peaceful protest in 1986. The two Naga students were tragically killed on March 20, 1986, during a protest organized by the NSF against government policies.
In a press release, the NSF has invited all students, youth leaders, and well-wishers to join in paying homage to the fallen comrades. NSF General Secretary Chumben Khuvung, emphasized that the sacrifice of the two martyrs continues to inspire generations in the collective pursuit of justice, peace, and the rights of the Naga people.
As part of the observance, the NSF has requested its federating units and subordinate bodies to fly their respective flags at half-mast as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Additionally, the NSF has urged all schools across the Naga homeland to observe a one-minute silence on March 20 in memory of the martyrs. The observance will also be significant as it will feature the unveiling and launching of the official trophy for the 25th edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy. This tournament, established in memory of the two students, will tour across the Naga homeland and stands as a symbol of resilience and unity among the Naga youth, promoting peace through sports.
