Senapati, October 6: A tragic road accident at Karong in Senapati district claimed one life and left four others injured when an EECO van plunged into the Barak river early Monday morning.
The mishap took place around 1:30 AM near Mt. Zion Hr. Sec. School, Kathikho Karong, as the van was travelling from Mao towards Senapati. It reportedly skidded off the road and rolled down the cliff into the river.

The victim who lost his life has been identified as Luikang Jonah (25), son of (L) Thomas of New Maram. His body was recovered by locals with assistance from the police and later handed over to his family.
Four others sustained injuries in the accident. They are Taiba Paul (25) of Maram Bazar, Wichunthuiliu (17) of Khongshakhul (A/P Liangmai Taphou), Widaliu (17) of Khongshakhul Khunou (A/P Kanglatongbi), and Lungbi Macheal (24) of Maram Bazar. All were rushed to Senapati District Hospital for treatment.
The van, bearing registration number NL-07CB-7383, was later pulled out of the river by Senapati police with the help of local residents.
