New Delhi, Aug 15: Marking the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his 12th consecutive address from the ramparts of the Red Fort to send a clear, uncompromising message on national security, hailing the Armed Forces for the success of Operation Sindoor and warning Pakistan that India will no longer tolerate nuclear blackmail.

In a speech charged with patriotic fervour, PM Modi described Operation Sindoor — India’s decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack — as “a testament to India’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty.” He revealed that the mission had struck deep into Pakistani territory, destroying terrorist headquarters and military assets.

“We gave our Armed Forces a free hand, allowing them to strategise, set the target, and decide the timing. They attacked hundreds of kilometres into enemy territory and turned terrorist bases to dust,” Modi said, adding, “Pakistan’s sleep is still disturbed. The devastation was so massive that new revelations are emerging every day.”

The Prime Minister underscored that India’s patience should not be mistaken for weakness. “Blood and water will not flow together,” he warned, criticising the Indus Waters Treaty as “unjust and unreasonable” and hinting at a possible review if Pakistan continues to harbour terrorism. “Terrorists and those who shelter them will not be seen separately. They are equal dangers to humanity,” he asserted.

The Red Fort ceremony was marked by high symbolism. Two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force showered flower petals over the venue — one carrying the national flag, and another bearing a flag depicting Operation Sindoor — as the Prime Minister hoisted the Tricolour. Floral tributes were also paid to Mahatma Gandhi, while cultural performances and military displays showcased India’s unity and strength.

This year’s Independence Day theme, ‘Naya Bharat’, reflected the nation’s aspiration to become a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, its centenary of independence. PM Modi called the celebration “a festival of 140 crore resolutions,” urging citizens to unite in building a self-reliant, secure, and developed India.
