NEW DELHI, Dec 19: Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned until 2 pm on Thursday following uproar by Opposition members over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. BR Ambedkar. This marks the second consecutive day of disruption in parliamentary proceedings.
In the Lok Sabha, as soon as the session commenced, Opposition members began raising slogans, creating a ruckus. Amid the chaos, Speaker Om Birla paid tribute to former minister and member of the House, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, before adjourning the session until 2 pm.
A similar scene unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, where Opposition members started shouting slogans as soon as the session began. This forced Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to adjourn proceedings until the afternoon.
The controversy surrounding Ambedkar’s legacy further intensified, with incidents of pushing and shoving reported between members of the ruling party and the Opposition in the Parliament premises.
BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed he was hurt during the commotion and accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of pushing him.” However, Rahul Gandhi denied the allegation, stating he was unaware of any such incident. Instead, he accused BJP MPs of obstructing his entry into the Parliament House.
Gandhi also criticized the BJP, saying that the central issue is that the BJP is attacking the Constitution and insulting the memory of Dr. Ambedkar.
