NEW DELHI, March 21: The ongoing budget session of the Parliament will see significant discussions and legislative activities on Friday, with several key reports expected to be tabled in both Houses. In the Lok Sabha, the second stage of the Union Budget will be taken up, along with the discussion and voting on the demands for grants for 2025-26 under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
According to the List of Business, the Lok Sabha will discuss the outstanding Demands for Grants and eventually vote on them. At 6 p.m., Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will submit the Outstanding Demands for Grants to the vote of the House, in respect of the Union Budget for 2025-26. She will also move for the introduction of a Bill to authorize payment and appropriation of certain sums from the Consolidated Fund of India for the financial year 2025-26, and seek to have the Bill taken into consideration and passed.
On Thursday, the BJP issued a three-line whip instructing all Lok Sabha MPs to be present for the passing of the budget. The party emphasized that the guillotine procedure would be applied on Friday, urging members to support the government’s stance. A guillotine is a parliamentary tactic that expedites the passing of a bill without further discussion, typically employed when the opposition is hindering the process.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier presented the Budget for 2025-26 in Parliament on February 1. In the Rajya Sabha, reports from various standing committees will also be tabled for discussion. Additionally, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the House will engage in private members’ legislative business.
