KAMJONG, April 11: Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing launched a scathing attack on contractors and implementing agencies during a recent inspection tour of Kamjong district, openly criticizing them for their involvement in stalled and substandard development works. The MLA expressed deep frustration over the poor progress and quality of several key infrastructure projects, accusing those responsible of misusing public funds and warning them of serious legal consequences for their negligence.
Standing before unfinished structures such as the Sadbhavana Mandap and Ava Market Complex—both pending since 2021 despite significant financial allocation—Leishiyo lashed out, questioning how “incompetent and careless” contractors continued to be awarded government tenders. “This is a betrayal of public trust,” he declared, asserting that the people of Kamjong deserve better development outcomes.
During his tour, Leishiyo inspected a newly constructed road and didn’t hold back his criticism. With biting sarcasm, he remarked, “It’s barely wide enough to cover a sleeping dog!” His anger intensified upon reaching Kamjong District Hospital, where he personally stepped in to assist patients struggling with inadequate facilities, showcasing his dedication to serving the public.
However, the most shocking incident occurred at the site of the under-construction 50-bedded hospital. Demonstrating the poor quality of work, the MLA kicked a wall, which crumbled on impact. “This is not just poor work; this is criminal negligence,” he said, demanding accountability not only from the contractors but also from the departments that approved and oversaw the project’s execution.
Kamjong headman Hoping Chitung backed the MLA’s concerns, noting that major development projects in the district have been left incomplete for years. His support underscored the wider community’s frustration with the stagnation.
Through his fiery remarks and hands-on approach, MLA Leishiyo Keishing has sent a powerful message: substandard work will no longer be tolerated, and Kamjong’s long-awaited development must finally move forward.
