NEW DELHI, July 30: The 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme will be released on August 2, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to lead the national event in Varanasi. Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review the preparations.

The government aims to transfer ₹2,000 each to over 9.7 crore eligible farmers, with a total disbursement of ₹20,500 crore. Since its launch in 2019, the PM-Kisan scheme has transferred ₹3.69 lakh crore to farmers across 19 installments.

The Minister urged farmers to attend the programme at 11 a.m. on August 2 at their respective villages, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), ICAR institutes, agricultural universities, market yards, or PACS headquarters. He encouraged everyone to listen to the Prime Minister’s address and treat the event as a festival.

Chouhan emphasized the importance of celebrating the release of the installment as both a mission and a community celebration. He called upon KVKs, agricultural universities, Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches to maximize farmer participation.

Senior officials including Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi and ICAR Director General Dr. M.L. Jat attended the review meeting. The minister also noted the opportunity to raise awareness on Kharif crop-related issues during the nationwide event.

The PM-Kisan scheme, launched on February 2, 2019, provides ₹6,000 annually to eligible farmer families in three equal installments of ₹2,000 every four months. The amount is directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, making it one of the largest and most transparent DBT schemes globally.
