NEW DELHI, Nov 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met the Indian women’s cricket team at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, to celebrate their historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory. The team scripted history by defeating South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, clinching their maiden ICC title.

Addressing the players, the Prime Minister said the triumph was a proud moment for every Indian, adding that the day was made even more special as it coincided with Dev Deepawali and Gurpurab. “Cricket in India is not just a sport—it’s an emotion that unites the nation. When our team wins, the whole country rejoices,” he said, lauding the team’s perseverance and resilience after their earlier setbacks.

Jemimah Rodrigues, reflecting on the team’s journey, said their unity and mutual support were the key to success. “A champion team is defined not just by victories, but by how it rises after a fall,” she remarked.

The Prime Minister congratulated the entire squad for their spirit and teamwork, emphasizing that their achievement had inspired millions of young girls across the nation. “The whole country feels proud. You have not only won a trophy but also won the hearts of 140 crore Indians,” Modi said.
