NEW DELHI, March 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmly stated that no technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), can ever replace the “boundless creativity and imagination” of the human mind.
In a podcast with American research scientist Lex Fridman, PM Modi responded to concerns about AI replacing humans by emphasizing that technology has long been portrayed as a threat to human existence. However, he pointed out that with every technological advancement, humans have adapted and remained ahead, ultimately finding the best ways to leverage technology to their advantage.
“I believe that with AI, humans are now being forced to reflect on what it truly means to be human. This is the real power of AI. Because of the way AI functions, it has challenged how we perceive work itself. But human imagination is the fuel,” the prime minister explained.
While acknowledging that AI can create many things based on human input and may achieve even more in the future, PM Modi reiterated his belief that no technology can replace the creativity and imagination inherent in the human mind. He also emphasized that humans possess an intrinsic ability to care for one another, a quality that AI, according to him, cannot replicate. “Now, can anyone tell me, is AI capable of this?” he asked.
Looking to the future of AI, PM Modi stressed that no matter what the world does with AI, it will remain incomplete without India’s involvement. “I make this statement with full responsibility,” he asserted, echoing his remarks from the recent AI summit in France, where he called for global cooperation on AI development. “I believe that AI development must be a collaborative effort,” he added.
