Itanaga, September 16: After completing a two-day tour of Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22, officials announced on Tuesday.
During his one-day visit to Arunachal, the Prime Minister will launch projects worth several thousand crores. He will lay the foundation stones for the ambitious 1,830-km Frontier Highway, two hydroelectric projects, and inaugurate the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) from Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar, where he is expected to address a large public rally. Modi will also virtually inaugurate a new integrated convention centre in Tawang.
The proposed Frontier Highway, stretching from Bomdila in West Kameng to Vijaynagar in Changlang district along the McMahon Line, is seen as a strategic boost to national security and border connectivity. The hydroelectric projects — the 186-MW Tato-I and 240-MW Heo — will be developed over the Yarjep River in Shi Yomi district.
Under VVP-II, 122 border villages in Arunachal will gain all-weather roads, 4G telecom, and electrification. Of these, 67 villages lie along the India-Myanmar border and 55 along the India-Bhutan border. The programme, with a total outlay of ₹6,839 crore, will be implemented in several border states and UTs till FY 2028-29 to ensure sustainable development, security, and integration of border populations.
On the same day, PM Modi will travel to Tripura to inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur, Gomati district. The 524-year-old temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, has been redeveloped under the PRASHAD scheme of the Union Tourism Ministry at a cost of over ₹52 crore, with an additional ₹7 crore contribution from the state government.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed that Modi will offer puja at the temple after inaugurating the project but will not address a public rally. He will return to Agartala later in the day before departing for Delhi.
