GUWAHATI, Jan 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Assam on Saturday for a two-day visit, his second trip to the state in less than a month, during which he will unveil major rail connectivity projects and lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga elevated corridor.
According to officials, soon after his arrival in Guwahati on the evening of January 17, the Prime Minister will witness the Bodo folk dance Bagurumba, to be performed by around 10,000 artistes at the Arjun Bhogeswar Barua Sports Stadium. The cultural event is expected to showcase Assam’s rich indigenous heritage on a national platform.
On January 18, Modi will travel to Kaliabor, where he will lay the foundation stone for the ₹6,957-crore Kaziranga elevated corridor project. The corridor is aimed at easing traffic congestion on National Highway-37 and mitigating human-animal conflict in the ecologically sensitive Kaziranga region.
During the visit, the Prime Minister is also expected to virtually flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains — the Dibrugarh–Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) and Kamakhya–Rohtak services — further strengthening rail connectivity between Assam and key regions of the country. He will also address a public meeting at Kaliabor before concluding his visit.
Modi had last visited Assam in December, when he inaugurated the new terminal of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, unveiled the statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi, and laid the foundation stone for a ₹10,601-crore brownfield ammonia-urea plant in Dibrugarh. His back-to-back visits are being seen as significant ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
