Shillong, July 17: A police complaint has been lodged against YouTuber Raghav Sharma and astrologer Sushil Guru for allegedly spreading inflammatory and false claims that tribal communities in Meghalaya still practice human sacrifice and cannibalism. The case, filed by social activist Enlang, has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation for maligning the indigenous communities of the state.

The controversy arose from a video posted on June 13, in which Sushil Guru made the controversial remarks during a discussion on Sharma’s YouTube channel. In his official complaint, Enlang termed the content defamatory, factually incorrect, and an incitement to communal hatred, stating it constituted hate speech against Scheduled Tribe communities.

Enlang also approached the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), urging it to take suo-motu cognisance of the matter. He demanded action against the individuals involved and requested the Ministries of Electronics and Information Technology and Information and Broadcasting to remove the video from all platforms.

He described the statements made in the video as “a gross cultural insult and an attempt to demonise an entire community.”

As of now, the NCST has not issued any official response regarding the petition or the complaint.
