IMPHAL, April 19: BJP leader and Sagolband MLA RK Imo on Saturday emphasized that a popular government is essential for the smooth functioning of a democratic system. He made the statement while addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of an inauguration event for a girls’ hostel under the MOBC department.
Imo revealed that a delegation comprising seven BJP MLAs recently met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. During the meeting, the legislators urged the Governor to intensify efforts for the recovery of illegal arms, particularly in the hill areas of the conflict-affected state.
The BJP MLA added that the delegation also appealed for the acceleration of the peace process by initiating dialogue between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. He stressed the importance of timely intervention and requested that appropriate action be taken against individuals involved in provocative acts targeting different communities.
Imo also welcomed the Governor’s public appeal for the voluntary surrender of looted and illegally held weapons, calling it a significant and positive move toward restoring lasting peace in Manipur.
