IMPHAL, April 22: In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, a combined team of Manipur Police and central security forces arrested four cadres of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in separate operations carried out over the past 36 hours in Imphal East district.
According to the Manipur Police, the arrests were made from Ngakhapat Adventure Kharok under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang Police Station. Among those apprehended were a female cadre and three male members, all identified as active members of PREPAK (Progressive).
The arrested individuals have been identified as Nongthombam Maingou Singh (33), Nongthombam Mohen Singh (45), and Keisham Sana Leima, also known as Tamphasana or Lingjel (40). Based on information obtained during their on-the-spot interrogation, security forces launched a follow-up operation leading to the arrest of another cadre, Khundrakpam Katho Singh (22), from his residence at Sawombung Thongkhong Awang Leikai in the same district.
The arrested individuals were reportedly involved in the kidnapping of two persons for ransom in Imphal East District. The victims were rescued safely from a hideout near Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam, following the successful operation by the police team.
During the course of the operation, authorities recovered a .32 pistol, one magazine loaded with five rounds, six mobile handsets, a black-coloured waist belt, and two two-wheeler vehicles.
