KOHIMA, Nov 7: The prime suspect in the October 31 attempted armed robbery at the State Bank of India (SBI) Chedema branch has surrendered to Kohima Police, officials confirmed.
The accused, identified as 35-year-old Vitoulu Domeh, turned himself in at the North Police Station on November 6.
“Following a relentless and intensive manhunt operation, the sustained pressure applied by the Kohima Police left the suspect with no escape route, compelling him to surrender at the North Police Station,” Kohima Police said in a statement.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on October 31, when a man armed with a pistol and claiming to wear an explosive device stormed the bank and demanded money. However, quick action by on-duty security personnel foiled the attempt, leading to the recovery of the stolen cash and seizure of the weapon. The suspect managed to flee the scene at the time.
The accused, who had terrorized bank staff using a pistol and a body-worn explosive device, was identified and pursued based on credible intelligence and public support. His surrender is a direct result of the unwavering resolve of the Kohima Police to bring perpetrators to justice.
“The investigation is ongoing to uncover all facets of this case. We extend our gratitude to the public and the media for their crucial cooperation,” it stated.
