Imphal, August 6: Private health institutions across Manipur will temporarily suspend services under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) from August 16, 2025, due to long-pending reimbursements and non-payment of government dues. The move comes after a unanimous decision by the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI), Manipur Chapter, during a meeting held on July 30, 2025.
The AHPI, representing private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres and other institutions, stated that the delay in claim settlements has placed its members under immense financial and operational stress, making it increasingly unviable to continue offering PMJAY benefits.
During the suspension period, all treatments and services that were previously provided free of cost under PMJAY will now be charged at regular institutional rates. However, AHPI assured that any payments collected from eligible PMJAY beneficiaries during this interim will be refunded once the dues are cleared by the government.
PMJAY, also known as Ayushman Bharat, is the world’s largest government-funded health assurance scheme, offering Rs 5 lakh health cover per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalization. It covers over 12 crore economically vulnerable families, approximately 55 crore individuals, which form the bottom 40% of India’s population.
Despite persistent financial difficulties, AHPI noted that private healthcare providers in Manipur have continued to support the public health infrastructure. However, with no resolution in sight regarding overdue reimbursements, the association said the suspension was a necessary, though regrettable, step.
“We request public understanding as we await a swift resolution from the concerned authorities,” AHPI said in its public notice.
The suspension, if not addressed promptly, may significantly affect access to affordable healthcare for thousands of low-income beneficiaries in Manipur who rely on private healthcare institutions under PMJAY.
