Shillong, July 30: In a stern move to curb the rising drug menace, Meghalaya’s Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) has issued a public advisory warning that strict legal action will be taken against owners of houses and vehicles found to be involved in drug trafficking activities.
Giri Prasad, Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills and head of the ANTF, emphasized that under Section 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, knowingly permitting one’s premises or vehicle to be used for drug-related offenses constitutes a punishable crime. Such complicity, he stated, is treated as direct involvement in the illegal trade.
The advisory calls on property and vehicle owners across the state to stay vigilant and monitor the use of their assets. Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity involving their property to the nearest police station or directly to the State ANTF office.
The move is part of a broader crackdown on narcotics operations in Meghalaya, aiming to dismantle networks by targeting not just traffickers but also those enabling the trade through negligence or collusion.
