New Delhi, July 28: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday firmly rejected Opposition allegations that Operation Sindoor—India’s recent cross-border military offensive—was called off under foreign pressure, specifically from the United States. Calling the claims “blatantly false and misleading,” Singh asserted in the Lok Sabha that the operation was halted solely because its core objectives were accomplished.
Opening the high-stakes debate on the floor of Parliament, Singh clarified that the military action was precise, non-escalatory, and targeted specifically at terror bases operating from Pakistani soil. “The purpose was not to annex territory but to destroy terror factories that endanger Indian lives and sovereignty,” he said.
Responding to allegations of U.S. involvement in the ceasefire, Singh revealed that it was in fact Pakistan’s own Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) who reached out to his Indian counterpart on May 10, requesting relief. “The Indian government, after achieving operational goals, made an independent decision to pause further strikes,” Singh stated.
He emphasized that Operation Sindoor is not over, warning that any future provocation from Pakistan would invite swift and decisive retaliation. “Let it be clear—India will not tolerate terrorism, and any misadventure will be met with the full might of our armed forces,” he warned.
Singh further detailed how, on May 10, the Pakistani military escalated hostilities, deploying drones, missiles, and electronic warfare assets. Indian defence systems, however, successfully intercepted all incoming threats, with no damage to Indian military installations reported.
Calling the operation a “textbook example” of coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force, Singh lauded the tri-services synergy in executing the strikes. Members of the Lok Sabha responded with loud desk-thumping as the Defence Minister praised the Armed Forces’ professionalism, preparedness, and precision.
The government’s strong rebuttal comes amid a political storm over the Opposition’s claims of external interference and lack of transparency surrounding Operation Sindoor.
