GUWAHATI, Oct 30: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Assam on November 9 to attend a grand Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Show in Guwahati that will feature around 150 aircraft, including cutting-edge Rafale, Sukhoi, and MiG fighter jets, officials said.

The spectacular event will be held at Lachit Ghat, along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, where the skies over Guwahati are set to dazzle with displays of aerial precision, formation flying, and combat manoeuvres.

The Air Show, themed “Infallible, Impervious and Precise,” is part of the IAF’s extended Air Force Day celebrations in the Northeast, marking the first-ever large-scale flying display of this magnitude in the region.

The demonstration will showcase a wide range of aircraft — from frontline fighters to transport planes and helicopters — flying in synchronised formations, highlighting the IAF’s operational excellence and technological edge.

Officials said the event aims not only to display India’s air power but also to inspire the youth of the Northeast to join the armed forces, fostering patriotism and national pride.

Public viewing zones will be arranged along the Brahmaputra riverfront, allowing thousands of citizens to witness the rare spectacle.

Ahead of Singh’s visit, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be in Assam on November 7 and 8 to inaugurate major projects, including the Guwahati Gateway Terminal, the Guwahati Riverfront Project, and to lay the foundation stone of Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University at Gohpur.
