NEW DELHI, Jan 25: A total of 942 personnel from Police, Fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD), and Correctional Services have been honored with Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of Republic Day 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced. The awards include 95 Medal for Gallantry (GM), 101 President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 746 Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).
In the category of Gallantry, out of the 95 Medal for Gallantry (GM) recipients, 78 police personnel and 17 fire service personnel were honored for their bravery. The GM is awarded for rare and conspicuous acts of gallantry, such as saving lives, protecting property, or preventing crimes, with a risk evaluation based on the officer’s duties and responsibilities. Of the 95 Gallantry awards, 28 were given to personnel from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 28 to personnel from Jammu & Kashmir, 3 to personnel from the North-East, and 36 from other regions for their valorous actions.
The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) was awarded to 101 individuals, with 85 from the Police Service, 5 from the Fire Service, 7 from the Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and 4 from the Correctional Service. This award recognizes a distinguished record of service.
Meanwhile, the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) was given to 746 individuals, with 634 from the Police Service, 37 from the Fire Service, 39 from Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and 36 from the Correctional Service. The MSM recognizes valuable service characterized by resourcefulness and devotion to duty.
