IMPHAL, Nov 24: The Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry of the Dental College at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has secured two prestigious national awards at the 46th National Conference of the Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD) held in Bhubaneswar from November 20 to 22.
The department bagged second prize in the ISPPD World Oral Health Day Celebration Contest 2025 and first prize in the ISPPD Nanhi Muskan Project 2025, an initiative focused on improving oral health among underprivileged children. The awards were received by Dr. Wairokpam Bhoomika Devi, Associate Professor and Head of the Department.
RIMS stated that its World Oral Health Day programmes included a wide range of community-based activities aimed at spreading oral hygiene awareness among children and families. This achievement marks the second consecutive year the department has earned national recognition, adding to its growing list of accomplishments.
The institute has now secured three national honours in 2025, including the Best Consistent Performer Award from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
RIMS authorities attributed the success to the leadership of Director Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Medical Superintendent Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, and Dental College Principal Prof. B. Praveen Reddy. They also extended gratitude to faculty members, nurses, students, community health workers, school coordinators, NGOs, government agencies, and participating families.
During the conference, ISPPD President Prof. Sudhindra Baliga praised the contributions of paediatric dentists from the Northeast and announced a new initiative, “NEST – Nurture, Educate, Serve, Treat,” set to enhance paediatric dental care nationwide in the coming year.
