KOHIMA, May 10: The second edition of the Nagaland Potato Festival was held at the Jakhama Local Ground, Kohima, under the theme “Celebrating the Organic Products of Nagaland.” The event focused on promoting organic potato cultivation throughout the state while offering a vital platform for local entrepreneurs and fostering economic opportunities for village communities.
The festival saw participation from over a hundred local entrepreneurs, primarily from the Southern Angami region, with additional stalls set up by participants from Kiphire and Wokha districts. The event highlighted community engagement and the rising interest in organic farming. The state’s Agriculture Department also took part, showcasing innovations and support initiatives for sustainable agricultural practices in Nagaland.
Temjen Imna Along, Minister for Tourism and Higher Education, graced the occasion as the special guest. In his address, he commended the dedication and efforts of farmers and stakeholders who have contributed to bringing recognition to Nagaland’s organic produce.
He underscored the critical link between rural prosperity and statewide development, stating, “If our villagers are prosperous, Nagaland will be prosperous. If our villagers are healthy, Nagaland will be healthy. If our villagers have a livelihood, then the people of the state will have a livelihood.”
The festival not only celebrated the organic farming movement in Nagaland but also reaffirmed the essential role of grassroots entrepreneurship in driving the state’s economic growth and self-reliance.
