IMPHAL, July 9: Security forces in Manipur conducted a series of intelligence-based operations across multiple districts between June 30 and July 6, resulting in the apprehension of four militants and the recovery of a massive cache of arms, ammunition, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The coordinated operations were carried out by formations of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps, in collaboration with Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP. These actions were focused on both hill and valley areas, including Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Imphal West.
According to a statement released by the Assam Rifles, the week-long operations led to the recovery of 62 weapons, 30 IEDs, several grenades, large quantities of ammunition, and other war-like stores. Among the seized arms were pistols, rifles (including INSAS and AK-56 variants), carbine machine guns, mortars, and even country-made sniper rifles.
Notable recoveries include:
- Jiribam District (July 1): 15 weapons, including shotguns, sniper rifles, and grenades, recovered from Uchathol and Jairalpokpi villages.
- Kangpokpi District (Nepali Khutti): 16 weapons and six improvised mortars.
- Churachandpur (Maovom Village): Over 10 weapons, including automatic rifles and a lathode gun.
- Tengnoupal District: 26 IEDs, 12 weapons, and destruction of several hidden bunkers.
- Imphal East and West: Recovery of concealed IEDs, carbine machine guns, and other arms in Chanbirok and other forested areas.
In Bishnupur and the foothills near Nepali Basti, additional arms including SLRs, .303 rifles, and ammunition were seized during joint raids.
The four apprehended cadres belong to both hill and valley-based militant groups and have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation.
Officials emphasized that these coordinated operations reflect the security forces’ unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the violence-hit state.
