IMPHAL, May 16: In a series of coordinated operations carried out on May 15, Manipur Police and security forces arrested eight insurgents affiliated with various militant groups across multiple districts of the state. The operations also led to the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and military equipment.
The most notable arrest was made on May 15 in Heirok, Thoubal District, where security forces apprehended Laishram Nanao Singh, a 39-year-old active member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), commonly known as PREPAK (Pro). The arrest took place near a brick field and resulted in the recovery of a substantial weapons cache, including a .303 rifle, four modified single bore action rifles, 54 rounds of .303 ammunition, and a hand grenade.

Authorities also recovered military-grade gear from Singh, including bulletproof plates, camouflage clothing, bulletproof jackets, and various magazines for automatic weapons. Additionally, a four-wheeler vehicle and a mobile phone were seized during the operation.
In separate operations conducted on the same day, security forces arrested two members of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Koireng) from different locations in Imphal East District. The suspects, identified as Loushigam Loveboy Singh and Laishram Diamond Singh, were found in possession of a .32 pistol and live ammunition.

Further operations across Thoubal and Imphal districts led to the arrest of three more insurgents, each captured in individual missions. Among them was Khundrakpam Brojen Singh, a 53-year-old member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), or KCP (PWG). Authorities allege that Brojen Singh was involved in extortion activities targeting educational institutions in the valley area.
