IMPHAL, Dec17: In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking in the Northeast, security forces arrested four alleged drug dealers and seized 147 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances, including a large quantity of Yaba tablets, in Manipur’s Jiribam district on December 16.
The arrests were made during a joint operation in the Leinaganpokpi area under Jiribam Police Station, based on specific intelligence inputs. The accused have been identified as Faruk Ali (35) of Assam’s Barpeta district, Santosh Patel (43) from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh, Mafij Uddin (29) of Assam’s Kamrup district, and Hanif Ali (28) from Bongaigaon district in Assam.
Security personnel also seized three truck vehicles allegedly used for transporting the contraband. Officials suspect the recovered drugs were part of a larger inter-state trafficking network operating across the Northeast.
All four accused have been taken into custody for further interrogation. Authorities said investigations are under way to trace forward and backward linkages of the racket, reiterating their resolve to intensify operations against drug smuggling in the region.
