IMPHAL, Nov 19: In a major boost to Manipur’s ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, security forces arrested five individuals in two coordinated operations conducted on November 17 and 18, leading to the recovery of over 1.3 kg of suspected heroin and multiple vehicles used for transportation.
On November 18, a joint team of security personnel launched an operation in Likhai village of Churachandpur district. Three individuals — David Sianmuanlian (26) of Singngat, Khamthang (56) of Khawzim village, and Nekgoumang (23) of Boljol village — were apprehended. The team seized 86 soap cases containing around 1.032 kg of suspected heroin, a four-wheeler, and a two-wheeler believed to have been used in ferrying the narcotics.
A day earlier, on November 17, another anti-drug team intercepted a vehicle near the Kusum Oil Pump at Nongmeibung under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. The operation resulted in the arrest of Md. Ajimuddin (24) of Kwakta Pangal Lamkhai and Md. Iqbal (22) of Kwakta Bazar, Bishnupur. The personnel recovered 353.63 grams of suspected heroin along with the four-wheeler used in the smuggling attempt.
Both incidents have been registered under relevant legal provisions and further investigation is underway.
