Imphal, September 16: Security forces in Manipur have arrested an active cadre of the proscribed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) along with two of his associates, and recovered a cache of looted weapons during intensified counter-insurgency operations in Imphal East district.
On September 15, a search operation in the Kongba Maru hill range under Sagolmang Police Station led to the recovery of four looted firearms, including an INSAS rifle, a 9mm pistol, two .303 rifles, and a 12-bore gun, along with several rounds of ammunition and live cartridges.
The operation followed the arrest of NRFM cadre Ningthoujam Yamba Singh alias Boy alias Sanayamba (44) of Keirao Bitra Awang Leikai on September 14. In a subsequent coordinated action, two of his close associates — Nongmeikapam Naresh Meitei (38) and Yumnam Tejkumar Singh alias Bobo (48), both residents of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai — were also apprehended.
From their possession, security forces seized a .32 pistol loaded with three rounds, four mobile phones, and an Aadhaar card. The trio was reportedly involved in extortion activities linked to NRFM.
