New Delhi, October 21: In a major cross-border counter-insurgency operation, Indian security forces carried out precision drone strikes on NSCN(K-YA) camps in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region early Tuesday, targeting top insurgent leadership and key operational infrastructure.

Intelligence sources reported that the strikes specifically hit the camp of self-styled Major General Peyong Konyak, a senior NSCN(K-YA) commander believed to be the mastermind behind a recent attack on an Assam Rifles Company Operating Base (COB) in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh.

Preliminary reports indicate that five people, including three of Peyong’s personal bodyguards, were killed in the attack. The NSCN (K-YA) has alleged that Indian security forces were behind the operation.

The operations were part of a calibrated and proportionate response to a surge in militant activity in the North-East. On October 16, suspected NSCN(K-YA) militants attacked the Assam Rifles COB at Hedman, while ULFA(I) cadres launched a separate attack on an Army base at Koomsang, Tinsukia district, Assam, injuring three personnel. Intelligence suggests the cross-border camps were being used as staging points for these operations.

Officials in New Delhi described the drone strikes as “precision-led, intelligence-driven counter-insurgency measures” aimed at neutralising high-value targets with minimal collateral damage. The drones reportedly employed precision-guided munitions, reflecting India’s evolving capability in technology-driven counter-insurgency and drone warfare.
