SENAPATI, March 14: Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, conducted an inspection of National Highway-02 (NH-02) as part of a pre-monsoon preparedness exercise. This inspection was triggered by reports of illegal encroachments and blockages of cross-drainage structures along the highway, which could worsen during the upcoming monsoon season.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Rang David Kung, MCS, Additional Deputy Magistrate (ADM) Senapati; SDO Senapati, SDO Lairouching, SDO Tadubi, ADM Mao, and officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL), and the Revenue Department.
The inspection focused on the stretch from Taphou Liangmai to Mao Gate, concentrating on encroachments within the Right of Way (ROW) of NH-02. During the inspection, illegal structures such as houses, driveways, and construction material storage were found obstructing passage and drainage systems along the highway.
The DC and her team also evaluated monsoon preparedness, taking into account the multiple landslides and mudslides from the previous year, which had caused road blockages and sludge accumulation that hindered traffic and drainage. Earlier, the DM had previously issued a warning that violators would face legal action under Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Section 188 of the IPC, and other relevant laws.
The following activities are strictly prohibited: Construction of houses within 10 meters ROW of the NH- 02; Storage of any items/ goods/ building materials/ sand/ stones/ woods/ iron bars/ bamboo etc. for commercial or private use within the ROW of the NH- 02; Cutting of hills along or above/ higher slopes of the NH- 02 that may resulted to landslides or mudslides; and, Blockage of cross drains/ side drains along the NH- 02.
