Senapati Forest Division Celebrates International Day for Biological Diversity with Painting Competition

SENAPATI, May 17: The Senapati Forest Division observed the International Day for Biological Diversity at the district level on Saturday at St. Anthony’s School, Senapati. The event featured an On-the-Spot painting competition for students from Class IX to Class XII, representing various schools across the Senapati district.

A total of 67 students from 9 different schools participated enthusiastically in the competition. This year’s theme, declared by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), was “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.” The theme highlights the crucial role biodiversity plays in achieving sustainable development goals.

By organizing this event, the Forest Division aimed to inspire young minds to creatively express their thoughts and ideas on sustainable practices and nature conservation.

The competition saw Marine Phimu of Class IX from Mave School winning the 1st prize. The 2nd prize was awarded to Vivila Maizamo of Class IX from Mt. Everest Hr. Sec School and Asavi T of Class X from Lao Radiant School. The 3rd prize went to Mercia Thoitak of Class IX from Brookedale School and Philarin Konghar of Class IX from Lao Radiant School.

Additionally, several students received consolation prizes for their commendable efforts: Ngahanyui Jajo (Class X, St. Anthony’s), Nakhi (Class XII, New Life Hr. Sec), Relief Kashung (Class IX, Mt. Everest), Jeaffina Rai (Class X, Don Bosco), and Rakhune Anne (Class X, St. Anthony’s).

The message of the event reinforced that harmony with nature and sustainable development are closely intertwined, emphasizing the need to balance human activities with the preservation and protection of the natural world. The Senapati Forest Division urged citizens to adopt a mindset of respect and protection for nature and to promote community-led conservation efforts.

The vivid paintings from the competition beautifully captured the importance of protecting our planet’s biodiversity, reminding everyone to work together in safeguarding and preserving the environment for future generations.
