Senapati, September 26: The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has strongly condemned and denounced the threat issued against Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu for her advocacy on women’s reservation and her socio-political efforts for the upliftment of women communities.

In a statement issued today, the NWU described the intimidatory threat as “a grave affront not only to her life but also to the ethical values and chastity of all women.”

“The patriarchal structure and social system that undermine women is not an appropriate tool for the current society anymore,” the Union stated. “We consider this threat not only as a threat to an individual lady but to the whole women communities.”

The Union stressed that women’s reservation is a long overdue right for women across the nation and warned that any attempt to silence women’s voices through coercion, threats, or verbal abuse will not be tolerated.

Referring to relevant legal provisions, the NWU called for strict action against the intimidators under the Indian Penal Code, citing:
• IPC Sections 503, 506, and 507 – punishment for criminal intimidation, threats to cause death, grievous hurt, or outrage modesty.
• IPC Section 509 – word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, including acts of verbal harassment.

The NWU also expressed regret that the administrators of the media page ‘Unified Naga Land for Christ’ failed to prioritize screening of posts that breach content regulations.

“We, therefore, urge the Government to ensure that the culprit is given befitting punishment under the law, without delay,” the statement read.

Extending solidarity with Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu, who serves as an advisor to the Nagaland Mothers’ Association, the NWU hailed her undaunted spirit and unwavering commitment to women’s and societal causes.

Unifying their stand, the Union concluded: “The voices will rise louder and stronger until justice is served.”
