Senapati, August 25: In continuation of its special drive to detect illegal immigrants and foreign nationals without valid documents, the Senapati District Police has verified more than 3,500 individuals in the last two weeks.
According to police, the drive has been carried out intensively and extensively across Senapati District since the beginning of this month. Between August 7 and August 23, a total of 3,559 individuals were verified. Of them, 296 were found without Inner Line Permits (ILP), 237 were carrying expired ILPs, while eight underage boys, who had come for labour work, were sent back from Mao gate.
Authorities said those found without ILPs or carrying expired permits were issued fresh ILPs and renewals accordingly at the Mao gate ILP counter. However, so far, no illegal immigrant has been detected during the verification drive.

The ongoing operation has been conducted in market areas, localities inhabited by non-locals, along National Highway-2, the Maram-Peren road, Tadubi-Tolloi road, and several inter-village routes.
To further strengthen the drive, a reinforced team comprising Senapati Police and 4IRB personnel has been deployed at Tamphung, operating 24×7 to check the movement of illegal immigrants into the district from the Maram-Peren road.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Senapati, SM Zaib Zakir, along with Additional SP (NH) and other senior officials, visited Tamphung for inspection and to oversee the functioning of the checkpost.
Police confirmed that the special drive will continue in the coming days.
