Senapati, September 26: Movement along National Highway-2 (NH-2) was brought to a standstill today as the Senapati District Truck Owners Association and the Senapati District Truck Drivers Union launched a sudden strike in protest of the alleged assault and arrest of a truck driver by Saparmeina Police.

The driver, identified as Ashepri David of Tungjoy village, was reportedly intercepted at an unauthorised checkpoint approximately 200–300 meters from the official police gate. Truckers alleged that he was kicked, punched, and beaten before being taken into custody around 5:30 am, without the issuance of any formal arrest memo.

Condemning the police action as intolerable, the two truck associations demanded the unconditional release of the driver and warned that the agitation would escalate if their demands were not met promptly.

The protest caused widespread disruption on NH-2, a vital highway connecting Kohima in Nagaland with Imphal in Manipur, and further linking other parts of Northeast India. The route is crucial for transporting essential supplies, fuel, and passengers across the region.
