Senior Army Officers Meet Manipur Governor; Discuss Security & Durand Cup Preparedness

Imphal, July 17: In a key development concerning regional security and sports infrastructure, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command, Lt. Gen. Ram Chander Tiwari, met with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Thursday. He was accompanied by GOC Spear Corps, Lt. Gen. Abhijit S. Pendharkar, and Maj. Gen. Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South).

The senior military officials briefed the Governor on the current security landscape in Manipur and the broader Northeastern region. They also updated him on the operational preparedness and logistical planning underway for the upcoming 134th edition of the prestigious Durand Cup, which is scheduled to take place later this year in the state.

The discussions emphasized the coordination between civil and military authorities to ensure the successful and secure hosting of the football tournament. The Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football competition, is expected to draw large crowds and national attention, making security arrangements a top priority.

In a separate meeting at Raj Bhavan, Governor Bhalla chaired the General Council Meeting of the Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA). The council engaged in extensive discussions on administrative and developmental agendas, including the formation of Standing Committees and future cultural programs.

The session focused on strategies to enhance the promotion of Manipur’s art, literature, and culture at both national and international platforms, reaffirming the state’s commitment to cultural preservation and creative development.
