Seven Insurgents Arrested Across Manipur in Major Crackdown on Militant Activities

IMPHAL, June 20: In a major blow to insurgent networks operating in Manipur, security forces have arrested seven active members of various outlawed outfits during a series of coordinated operations conducted across multiple districts between June 18 and 19, 2025.

The most notable arrest took place on June 19, when Manipur Police apprehended two active cadres of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) from Wangoi Bazar in Imphal West District. The arrested individuals were identified as Leimapokpam Somendro Singh, 47, and Tayenjam Haridas, 44. They were found in possession of mobile phones, identification documents, Rs. 795 in cash, and a blue TVS Jupiter scooter.

On the same day, central security forces made another significant arrest along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal District. Two insurgents from separate outfits were captured from the General Area BP-87. The arrested militants were identified as Mangshatabam Sharatchandra Meitei, 27, affiliated with the United National Liberation Front (Kangla Yawol Kanna Lup) [UNLF (K)], and Keisham Tokio, 24, a member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive) [PREPAK (Pro)].

Further intensifying the crackdown, security forces arrested Thoudam Doren Singh, 32, an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)], from Sekmaijing Khunou in Kakching District. Singh was allegedly involved in widespread extortion activities targeting business establishments, petrol pumps, and the general public across the valley districts.

In a notable operation on June 18, security personnel apprehended Pheiroijam Chitrapyari Devi, 21, a female cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s Socialist Council) [KCP (PSC)], from Phaknung Thongkhong in Imphal East District, marking a rare arrest of a woman insurgent.

Another major breakthrough came with the arrest of Nameirakpam Dhamen Singh, 49, an active PREPAK member involved in extortion-related crimes. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including 69 rounds of .303mm ammunition, 18 rounds of 7.62mm SLR ammunition, various other caliber rounds, an INSAS LMG magazine, and a silver Hyundai i10 vehicle.

The final arrest in the series involved Pheiroijam Lalmohan Singh, 33, a member of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), who was caught near the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Imphal East District. He was found carrying a country-made semi-automatic weapon and live ammunition.
