Seven Manipur Footballers Named in Indian Squad for CAFA Nations Cup 2025

Imphal, August 25: Manipur’s reputation as the powerhouse of Indian football received another boost as seven footballers from the state have been named in the Indian squad for the upcoming CAFA Nations Cup 2025 in Tajikistan.

The players — Chinglensana Singh, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Roshan Singh, Udanta Singh, Boris Singh, Jeakson Singh, and Mahesh Singh — will don national colours in the prestigious Central Asian Football Association tournament beginning August 29.

The announcement sparked celebrations across the state, with former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh hailing the selections as a proud moment. “What a proud moment for Manipur! Each one of you carries the love, prayers, and hopes of every family back home. You remind us once again why Manipur is called the powerhouse of Indian football. Go out there, play your hearts out, and let the world see the spirit of Manipur,” Singh wrote on X.

Indian football’s new head coach Khalid Jamil named a 23-member squad on August 25, marking his first assignment since taking charge of the national side. Under his leadership, the Blue Tigers will aim to make a strong mark at the continental stage.

India have been drawn in Group B alongside hosts Tajikistan, defending champions Iran, and Afghanistan. The national team will open their campaign against Tajikistan on August 29, followed by fixtures against Iran on September 1 and Afghanistan on September 4.
