Guwahati, October 16: In a significant development in the investigation into the death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, Singapore Police authorities are scheduled to meet an Assam Police team on October 21, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday.
The meeting will involve Singapore Police officials and a Special Investigating Team (SIT) from Assam, led by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Munna Gupta, who is heading the probe. The discussion aims to coordinate further investigation details and ensure progress in the high-profile case.
Chief Minister Sarma, reaffirming the government’s commitment to justice, stated, “Another step forward towards justice for our beloved Zubeen. The Singapore Police authorities will meet the Assam Police team led by Sri Munna Gupta, ADGP and Head of SIT, on 21st October. Our collective resolve remains — Justice for Zubeen will prevail.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Singapore’s Acting High Commissioner Alice Cheng met the Assam Chief Minister in Guwahati and expressed condolences over the singer’s demise. The High Commission later confirmed that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) had shared Garg’s autopsy report and preliminary findings with the Indian High Commission in Singapore on October 1.
A statement from the Singapore High Commission noted, “The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has conveyed Mr Garg’s autopsy report and its preliminary findings to the Indian High Commission in Singapore on 1 October 2025 at the latter’s request. As investigations are still ongoing, we are unable to comment further on the case.” The Commission also urged for patience and understanding from the people of Assam as the investigation proceeds.
Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most celebrated musicians, passed away on September 19 in Singapore, allegedly due to drowning while swimming, a day before he was scheduled to perform at the Northeast India Festival.
Those named as accused in connection with the case include event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, suspended APS officer Sandipan Garg, and two police security officers — Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya.
The Assam government has maintained that every aspect of the case will be thoroughly examined, and justice will be ensured for the late singer, whose death has left a deep void in the cultural landscape of the Northeast.
