Speaker’s Tribunal Reserves Judgment on Disqualification Cases Against Six NPP MLAs

IMPHAL, Feb 8: The Speaker’s Tribunal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has reserved its judgment on the disqualification cases filed against six MLAs of the National People’s Party (NPP). The decision followed a prolonged hearing held today.

The six NPP legislators facing disqualification are Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh of Kakching, Thongam Shanti Singh of Moirang, Irengbam Nalini Devi of Oinam, Khuiraijam Loken Singh of Wangoi, Sheikh Noorul Hassan of Kshetrigao, and Janghemlung Panmei of Tamenglong.

During the proceedings, the Tribunal granted the involved parties until 1 PM tomorrow to submit any written statements before delivering its final judgment. The hearing lasted nearly three hours from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with verbal submissions made by the petitioners’ counsel, N. Bupenda, who argued on behalf of the petitioners for about an hour.

Bupenda spoke to the media after the hearing, expressing confidence in their case and stating that sufficient evidence had been submitted to justify the disqualification of the six MLAs. However, the final decision rests with the Tribunal.
