GUWAHATI, Oct 25: A SpiceJet flight SEJ2448, traveling from Delhi to Shillong, made an emergency landing at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati on Friday following an influx of hoax bomb threats. The flight is believed to be among six SpiceJet planes targeted by recent threats, adding to over 250 bomb threat incidents affecting flights in recent days.

All passengers were safely disembarked, with no injuries reported. SpiceJet is actively investigating the incident and will provide further updates on the flight’s status.

The rise in bomb threats has caused widespread disruption for air travel, leading to delays, cancellations, and significant financial impacts. Aviation expert Sidharath Kapur emphasized the costs involved, as each delayed or diverted flight results in lost revenue and operational challenges.

This week, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu proposed updates to The Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982, enabling authorities to arrest suspects and initiate investigations without a court order when an aircraft is grounded. The government is also considering measures to counteract such threats, including adding offenders to a no-fly list.
