SENAPATI, March 18: The Social Work trainees of St. Xavier College, Maram Khunou, Senapati, commemorated World Social Work Day with a series of impactful activities under this year’s theme, “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Well-Being.”

The event, organized by the college’s Social Work Department, was graced by the presence of the Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. William Nepuni, Vice Principal, Fr. John Pouveiche, esteemed faculty members, and the resource person, Sir Asahrii Clement K, Social Engineer, Former President and Tribunal General of PNTM. The event highlighted the transformative power of social work in fostering resilient communities and uplifting lives.

The program commenced with a warm welcome from one of the social work trainees, followed by an invocation and a special song. The Principal delivered an insightful speech emphasizing education as a service and the importance of self-reliance.

The highlight of the event was an address by Sir Asahrii Clement K, who elaborated on the crucial role of social workers in contemporary society and future endeavors. He touched upon the significance of this year’s theme, “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Well-Being.” As a social work graduate himself, he expounded on the core values of social work and its service to humanity, while sharing his personal journey and experiences in the field. He further offered a profound perspective to students, faculty, and administrators to prioritize fieldwork in addition to theoretical learning, to transcend their comfort zones, and to actively engage in outdoor initiatives, which is the essence of genuine social work.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by a trainee, followed by the college’s spiritual song. The event successfully fostered a deeper understanding of the meaningful role social workers play in shaping a just and compassionate society.
