Storm Wreaks Havoc Across Tripura, 445 Houses Damaged

AGARTALA, April 22: Heavy rain and storms lashed several parts of Tripura on Monday, causing widespread damage to infrastructure and property. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, at least 445 houses were damaged, and two people were injured after a roof collapsed on them during the storm.

The severe weather also uprooted trees and brought down numerous electric poles, leading to power outages in several affected areas.

The worst-hit region was Mohanpur Sub-division in West Tripura district, where a total of 261 houses were reported damaged—65 severely and 196 partially. In Karbook, located in Gomati district, the storm caused major devastation with 158 houses damaged, including 26 completely, 83 severely, and 49 partially.

Other affected areas include Sonamura Sub-division in Sepahijala district, where 7 houses were damaged, Jirania in West Tripura with 3 houses partially damaged, and Teliamura in Khowai district where 16 houses sustained damage.

Karbook also reported 14 uprooted trees and 22 damaged electric poles. Meanwhile, in Udaipur Sub-division, authorities recorded the uprooting of 10 trees and damage to 27 electric poles.

Relief and restoration efforts are currently underway, and authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage across the state.
