IMPHAL, Nov 25: A day after internally displaced people attempting to return back to their native homes clashed with security forces in Imphal East district, students of a government school on Tuesday marched towards the Raj Bhavan to protest alleged excessive use of force by security forces.
Students of CC Higher Secondary School in Imphal town marched toward Raj Bhawan to protest the treatment against IDPs at Pukhao Terapur and Dolaithabi dam on Monday but were stopped atleast 100 metres from the governor house leading to a brief stand off.
Later, three student representatives were allowed to submit a memorandum addressed to the governor.

In the memorandum, the students expressed strong objection to the alleged use of force against IDPs attempting to return to their homes, stating that residents of the relief camps have long been waiting for resettlement.
They also demanded strict action against the security personnel who had fired tear gas shells.
The students also claimed it was “unfair” to hold the Sangai Festival while thousands of IDPs continue to live in relief camps without hope of returning home. They reiterated that their stand against the festival was a call for the government to address the plight of displaced families urgently.
The protests concluded after security forces escorted the students back to their school.
