New Delhi, Sept 20: The Supreme Court of India’s YouTube channel was hacked today, displaying videos promoting a cryptocurrency developed by Ripple Labs, a US-based firm. The live stream, titled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP Price Prediction,”was broadcast on the compromised channel.
The Supreme Court’s channel, which is used to live-stream important hearings and public interest cases, was targeted in the breach. Recent streams include high-profile cases such as the Kolkata rape-murder trial.
The court had adopted live-streaming for constitution bench cases following a 2018 decision aimed at enhancing transparency. This decision was part of a broader move to open court proceedings to public view.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about online security, especially as Ripple Labs had previously sued YouTube over failing to prevent scam accounts impersonating its CEO. The company accused YouTube of allowing fraudulent cryptocurrency promotions despite numerous complaints.
What a tragedy in the YouTube account of SC!
