IMPHAL, May 8: In a coordinated operation, Indian authorities on Wednesday deported three Myanmar nationals who had entered India illegally through Moreh in Manipur. The deportation, jointly executed by the Manipur Police and 5 Assam Rifles personnel stationed at Moreh, was conducted at the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge located in Tengnoupal district.
The individuals had previously served prison sentences for entering the country without valid documentation. After completing their terms, they were held at a foreign detention centre near the Manipur Central Jail in Imphal East district. On Monday, they were transported to Moreh and subsequently handed over to Myanmar immigration officials from Tamu town in Myanmar’s Sagaing Division.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of Moreh Police Station, the deportation process was carried out around 11 a.m. at the Moreh Gate check post bridge, a key crossing point on the India-Myanmar border. A team comprising Moreh Police, Indian Immigration officials, and Assam Rifles personnel facilitated the smooth handover.
This deportation highlights India’s ongoing efforts to manage cross-border movement amid increasing concerns about illegal immigration in the region. Authorities also confirmed that nearly 100 more Myanmar nationals are currently being held at the Manipur jail in Imphal, pending further legal and administrative action.
