IMPHAL, March 13: Senior Border Security Force (BSF) and police officials on Thursday paid their respects to three BSF jawans who were killed and 11 others injured after the truck they were traveling in fell into a gorge in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on March 11, 2025.
A BSF spokesman confirmed that senior officials from BSF, the police, and the civil administration gathered at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal to pay their tributes during a wreath-laying ceremony. The three BSF personnel who lost their lives were identified as Head Constable Surendra Kumar, Constable Bachhu Mondal, and Constable Ankul Singh, all members of the 37 Battalion of BSF.
The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by Manipur’s Additional Director General of Police L. Kailun, Inspector General of BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier Sanjay Kumar Misra, and other senior BSF and Manipur police officials. Following the ceremony, the bodies of the three deceased jawans were sent to their respective homes in different states.
The road accident occurred at Changoubung village in Kangpokpi district, where the BSF truck plunged into a gorge. All 14 BSF personnel on board were injured, and they were evacuated to Senapati District Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the three BSF jawans succumbed to their injuries.
The BSF spokesman highlighted the immense contributions of the deceased jawans in maintaining law and order in Manipur, recognizing their selfless service. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also expressed his condolences over the tragedy, stating his deep sorrow over the loss of the three jawans. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the swift recovery of the injured.
