AGARTALA, June 10: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has reiterated his appeal to the central government, urging immediate attention to the repair and completion of barbed wire fencing along the India-Bangladesh border shared by the state. With approximately 856 kilometers of international boundary, around 80% has already been fenced, but the remaining stretches remain vulnerable due to stalled work and persistent challenges.
Speaking on the issue, CM Saha emphasized the urgency of repairing damaged sections of the existing fencing, which have suffered due to natural calamities like landslides and heavy rainfall, as well as deliberate vandalism by miscreants.
“During the NEC plenary session in December 2024, I raised the need for urgent repairs and the construction of new fencing in unfenced areas. The issue has been highlighted with the central leadership multiple times and is under their consideration,” said Dr. Saha. He further added that he plans to bring the matter to the attention of authorities in Delhi once again to expedite the process.
Addressing rising concerns over infiltration, the Chief Minister said that discussions with the Border Security Force (BSF) and other security agencies have been ongoing to bolster surveillance along the international border and prevent illegal crossings. Although there has not been a significant increase in infiltration incidents, Dr. Saha stressed the need for continued vigilance and efficient deportation measures to address illegal immigration.
On the political front, the Chief Minister also participated in a party event at the BJP state headquarters, where he launched the “Seva, Sushan, Garib Kalyan of 11 Saal” campaign. The initiative is part of a nationwide celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 11 years in office and aims to highlight key achievements in national security, economic progress, and welfare schemes targeting the underprivileged.
BJP Tripura state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and general secretary Bipin Debbarma were also present during the launch of the campaign, underscoring the party’s collective effort in showcasing the Centre’s developmental milestones.
