AGARTALA, April 10: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the Royal Scion of Tripura and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, presented his Examination Chief before the West Tripura District and Sessions Court on Thursday, April 10. The appearance stemmed from a case filed by Debbarma following alleged derogatory remarks targeting him and the indigenous populace of Tripura.

The catalyst for the legal action was an FIR lodged by Debbarma in 2023 against Saikat Talapatra, an Agartala resident. Talapatra is accused of using racially charged terms, specifically labeling Debbarma and the indigenous people as “Chinese,” “Chinese aunty,” and “Chinese dalal.” This incident led to Talapatra’s arrest under the Special ST/SC Act 2023.

Emerging from the court proceedings, Debbarma articulated the gravity of the situation. He reiterated that his FIR was a direct response to the offensive language used against his community. “He referred these things to our community. It is very sad. I have to defend my community, my own family, because we are referred to as Chinese,” Debbarma stated, emphasizing the hurt and injustice inflicted upon the indigenous people.

Debbarma further elaborated on the broader implications of such incidents, highlighting the vulnerability of Northeast communities. “This says a lot about our country—that it is not only about our students who are suffering elsewhere. Even in the North East, sometimes we are targeted by being called Chinki, Chinese, Chinese dalal. It hurts our sentiments,” he remarked.

He also called for peace within his community. “I told our people—don’t react and don’t indulge in anything which is illegal. There is a court, and justice will be given to us through legal challenges. We are hopeful the court will deliver justice to all of us,” he added, expressing his unwavering faith in the judicial process.
