Two Active Militants of Banned Outfits Arrested in Manipur in Separate Operations

Imphal, July 18: Security forces have arrested two active militants affiliated with banned insurgent groups in separate counter-insurgency operations carried out across Manipur, officials confirmed.

On July 17, security personnel apprehended Thokchom Yoihenba Singh, also known by his aliases Wangba and Lion, from Thinungei Mamang Paton in Bishnupur district. The 21-year-old is a member of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), a Meitei insurgent outfit known for its anti-state activities.

Authorities said Singh underwent 30 days of basic military training at Kakching Khunou before launching into extortion operations. Investigations revealed that he had collected Rs 1 lakh in extortion money, which was handed over to his handler within the banned organisation. A mobile phone with two SIM cards was recovered from his possession during the arrest.

In a separate operation conducted a day earlier on July 16, Manipur Police arrested Sorokhaibam Pari Singh, also known as Ibungo, from Koirengei Awang Potshangbam Road near Keikol Police Post in Imphal East district. The 26-year-old is affiliated with the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM).

Singh was involved in multiple criminal activities, including abduction for ransom, to generate funds for his organisation. He also facilitated the transportation of arms and ammunition and coordinated the movement of cadres within the valley region
