Two Arrested in Imphal East for Alleged Arms Smuggling

Imphal, August 6: In a coordinated operation, a joint team of Manipur Police commandos and central security forces arrested two individuals on Tuesday in Imphal East district for their alleged involvement in arms smuggling. The operations were conducted separately at different locations, following specific intelligence inputs.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ningombam Abung Meitei, also known as Ibomcha, aged 50, from Huidrom Awang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station, and Ningthoujam Konungjao Meetei, aged 33, from Keibi Khulen Makha Leikai under Sagolmang Police Station. Meitei was taken into custody from Pourabi Hidumbi, while Meetei was apprehended from his residence.

During the arrests, the security personnel recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine, two live rounds of 9mm ammunition, a Vespa scooter, two mobile phones, and an Aadhaar card from their possession. According to the police, both individuals were allegedly involved in the illegal sale of arms and ammunition.

They have been booked under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act, 1959, and further investigation is currently underway.
